Before I started boot camp my weight and health were spiraling out of control. I had always been overweight, but had always been fit, I was previously a black belt instructor in Tang so Do. However I then had a double Mastectomy in 2011 (like Angelina Jolie) and this takes a lot of getting over and as I say my health, weight and fitness had begun to suffer. I weighed 100.6 Kgs at this point
I did have reservations about joining boot camp although the fact that my brother had started one in the USA and done really well made me seek one out and get started ASAP. I suppose as I was 55 when I started I was worried about pushing myself too hard or damaging something, However Petra makes sure you work to your own ability, but just gently pushing you on that extra bit when she knows you can do it. She is also aware of any health problems that you have and works round them. I have arthritic knees and some exercises make them feel like they are going to give way, so she changes or adapts so its done safely.
My fitness improved, I am able to run around a football pitch (I am no runner so that is a big deal for me) I have gone from a size 20/22 to a 16. My health has improved and I have lots more energy.
Its about taking control of your own issues and Petra with guide you through this and make you work hard to achieve your goals. I am now more in control of what I do to my body. I am more careful about what I put in my mouth and eat far less processed food that I did before. I have definitely learned lots about controlling what I eat etc.
